Something you feel strongly about is the topic for today’s #LoveMe Challenge. I’ll give you one guess what my topic is…
I know, I know, someone with skin cancer harping on using sunscreen, I get it. But really, with the scary increase in the numbers of skin cancers being diagnosed rising exponentially, I do feel very strongly about making sure that everyone – regardless of what skin color you may currently possess – should be using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. If not for the protection from the potential of skin cancer, then at least for the vanity of preventing wrinkles and sun damage that affects your looks.
Going through this ordeal is not something I would wish on anyone else. I don’t know if my particular melanoma was the result of defective genes or a lifetime of insufficient SPF on my legs; but I do know that I wish I had been more vigilant about using sunscreen not just on my face, but my arms and legs too. Someone said in a magazine article that a tan was not healthy, that it’s actually a sign of damage to your skin. I didn’t know that when I was in my teens. I wish I had…
Using sunscreen today is not nearly as bad as it was 20 years ago. I used to get really bad reactions to PABA, but now there are gentle formulations for people with sensitive skin. My hubby has oily skin, and even he has managed to find a brand that doesn’t run into his eyes. Test a bunch of different brands out, find one that works for you, and use it everyday. You don’t want to end up with a scar, and a diagnosis that can play mind games with you.
