So, there’s got to be readers of this blog that cringe when I start talking about travel. If you’re one of those people who think to yourself “Dear God woman, just talk about cancer, and scars, and maybe some science every once in awhile”, feel free to skip this post.
The rest of you, you with me still? Good…
I think I covered in exhaustive detail how much I loved roaming around London on my recent U.K. adventure. Yesterday, I was recovering from the Metallica concert the night before (by the way, they still are amazing live; go see them and take Advil right away to treat that neck pain you’ll get from headbanging) and was trying to motivate myself to get to work on a project. I do that by aimlessly browsing airfare sales. Everyone has their thing, right? I work to afford to travel…And I saw a sale that really caught my eye – roundtrip from Austin to London over Thanksgiving for $525!
Look, I am an only child who lives 1500 miles from family. I have never gone to Ohio for Thanksgiving when I’ve lived out-of-state. Traveling within the States during that time is a cluster and a half. Airports are full of crabby non-frequent fliers. Prices for everything are jacked. And frankly, if I’m spending a boatload of money on travel, Cleveland is never going to be a destination on that list. My parents and I have an agreement. I don’t go to Ohio unless I absolutely can’t help it – but I promise to drop everything and go if there is a need (my parents’ big round birthdays and when my mom had surgery both counted as needs). In return, I don’t ask them to come to Texas in the middle of the summer. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement.
So seeing that airfare caused my hand to reach for my credit card and remembering that impulsive Nicole is responsible for some fun adventures, I booked it before I could talk myself out of it. I am so excited to have the opportunity to make good on the promise I made when standing in the train station in Kings Cross a few weeks ago. I’m going back to London sooner rather than later!
