In a recent news story out of Tampa, a widow describes how she lost her husband to amelanotic melanoma. Spreading from a lesion on his calf into the lymph system, the cancer ended up claiming the man’s life after a 3-year battle against the disease. He had a lump in his groin that signified the spread of the cancer and is what ultimately lead to the discovery of the melanoma.
In the news story, there is a link to the video content that shows images of amelanotic melanomas as well as the widow talking about how she’s honoring the memory of her husband. As someone who has had the words “amelanotic melanoma” as part of her own personal lexicon, I am always sad to hear about people who discovered their Lokis too late.
