Closing Out a Tough Year

2 Comments on Closing Out a Tough Year

Let’s be honest, 2018 was not a year that I would want to relive. And now that we’re in a new year, I can look back with a sigh of relief that I managed to get through that year without a recurrence of melanoma.

It’s not to say that simply flipping a calendar page (wait, do people younger than my parents’ age have paper calendars anymore?) will magically make things better. Obviously I still have some massive uncertainty on the job front to deal with over the next few weeks and there’s always that void that was created with my dad’s passing to deal with as well. But there is something reassuring about celebrating a new year, about reaching a global milestone together with everyone on the planet (even the cultures that have their own calendar still seem to celebrate New Year’s).

What will 2019 bring for us as a planet, as a civilization? What will 2019 bring to me, my family, my friends? If you’re a pessimist, you’d probably think “great, more of the same sadness, fear, and angst”. But I don’t want to be pessimistic about this year. I want to believe that 2019 will mean experiencing some of the bad stuff (because I am a realist after all), but it will be overshadowed by great, wonderful, exciting, happy times.

Am I being too optimistic? Let’s hope not…

    Hi

Just reading this because I’m trying to figure out this whole pink melanoma thing, not so easy when you have to learn how to be a dermatologist in a week. Anyways… thanks

Hi! It takes time to figure out what pink melanoma is and how you can best treat it. Trust your dermatologist to have done a lot of the heavy lifting, but know that the the person most invested in your health is you. Your doctor should be a partner in the process. And if you have any questions or just want to talk, let me know. Best of luck on your journey…
