Amelanotic Nodular Melanoma – Who’s Looking for Information

I’m noticing an interesting trend here on Pink Melanoma. There seems to be lots of inquiries regarding what amelanotic nodular melanoma is and specifically people landing on a previous page here on the blog.

Look, I’ll be honest. I really hope people are searching that term because they’ve heard how wildly entertaining this blog is. But the reality is, people are using that search term for a reason, and I’m hoping that the reason isn’t because you or a family member received this diagnosis.

But if you or a loved one has been recently told that the bizarre red, pink, or whatever other color spot on their skin isn’t just a mole but amelanotic nodular melanoma, don’t lose hope. This thing can be treated, can be removed with minimally invasive means (heck, it’s called an excision, not a surgery for a reason). Yes, melanoma is scary to hear coming from a doctor. And yes, the statistics for this particular variant, amelanotic nodular melanoma, are scary when you go searching online. But it doesn’t mean that you or your loved one can’t be successfully treated.

If you have any questions or just need someone to talk to, reach out to me. I know what it’s like to hear that diagnosis and freak out looking for information. I also know what it’s like to wade through hundreds of pages of medical jargon and not finding anything reassuring. But every day that I don’t obsess over a new spot on my skin is a successful day. And every day that I look at my scar, I realize that early detection, early intervention, saved my life. And some days, that’s all you really need to know.
