Start of the Summer and I Forgot SPF

It’s June, and here in Austin, that means that the summer time temperatures are climbing. We had a lot of rain over the past few weeks; but the forecast for the next 15 days are full of sun icons and 90 degree temperatures. As I walked to work today, I suddenly realized that I did not remember to put sunscreen on exposed limbs. I cannot believe that the first full-on sunny day we’ve had here in over 2 weeks is the first day in a very long time that I didn’t put on SPF before walking out the door.

Is it because it’s a Monday after an eventful weekend? Is it because the appearance of the sun this morning scrambled my normal waking-up process? Is it because I was too busy worrying about a meeting that I had today at work? Whatever the reason, I’m angry and disappointed in myself for walking out of the door with only sun protection for my face.

Am I going to give myself melanoma again for forgetting one day? Probably not, but those one days add up and the cumulative effect of all of those UV rays are not a good thing for anybody, let alone a body that likes to produce melanoma. Add into the equation that my desk was moved to a new location in the office where I’m exposed to the western sun, and I’m just kicking myself for being so sleepy this morning that I threw my whole routine off.
