It’s not a stretch to say that this has been one of the most challenging years I’ve had since my melanoma diagnosis in 2014. Between losing my dad to having some significant battles over getting the water damage to my condo repaired to recent corporate developments that may leave my position “redundant” sometime around the holidays, it just seems like… Read more »
I finally heard back from my dermatologist’s office. Apparently the thing on my leg is… well, they’re not sure. But they’re pretty sure that it’s not melanoma. I guess that’s a good thing to hear. I would prefer some more definitive answer on what it is, but I guess knowing it’s not melanoma or any other form of skin cancer… Read more »
My last couple of posts were sad stories about skin cancer. I figured I would switch it up for this post and relate something not slightly depressing… I’m switching roles in my company, which for me is very good news. I was getting really stressed reporting to a boss that had no clue on how to manage a team and… Read more »
Well, I’m sitting in the mountains of Vermont and the cool, fresh air feels amazing. And I’m breathing a little easier because I got a call from the dermatologist’s assistant telling me that my biopsy came back benign. I can tell you, I was really sweating during the waiting period. It is a relief to know that right now, I’m… Read more »
Well, I had my appointment with the dermatologist yesterday and as you may be able to guess from the title of this post, I didn’t get to walk out of there without more bits of my skin going off to pathology. When I got into the exam room, the assistant asked me if there were any spots of interest they… Read more »
I live in a condo in downtown Austin, which most of the time is awesome. The view is amazing; I’m close to a bunch of restaurants and bars; I can walk to Antone’s – a really cool intimate blues club – to see amazing and under-appreciated musicians perform. The building I live in is undergoing maintenance and yesterday, that caused… Read more »
So, I’ve got another skin check coming up. This one will mark the two and a half years since my excision. For whatever reason, I’m actually worried about this one. On one hand, a “nothing to worry about” result will give me more peace of mind, I think. I’m halfway through to the five-year mark and that’s a pretty big… Read more »
It’s already mid-December and I have no idea where this year went to. It’s funny how quickly the days and weeks fly by as you get older. If I was 7, these last few weeks before the end of the year would seem to take forever – but already I’m grappling with how I’m going to get everything done I… Read more »
The days are getting shorter in the Northern Hemisphere and this time of year always makes me sleepy. But a recent post on Facebook by a husband and wife account detailing her battle with Stage Four breast cancer got me thinking… You see, a few years ago at the tail end of my time in San Antonio, I suffered from… Read more »
I’m kind of a workaholic. Attribute that to my mom, who worked tirelessly from the time she was young until just a few years ago. She held a variety of low-paying grunt jobs while I was growing up – dishwasher, assembly in a factory – the kind of jobs that most normal people would call in sick on a regular… Read more »
